Just the two of you. No audience, no obligation, no compromising on what feels right. Intimate, emotional elopement photography in Edinburgh and beyond.

Let's plan your elopement

It's not running away.
It's running towards.

Eloping doesn't mean you don't care about your wedding. It means you care so much that you refused to let anyone else define it. Here's what I know about couples who elope:

01

They're not selfish — they're clear.

Knowing what you want and having the courage to do it is one of the most loving things you can bring to a marriage. Eloping isn't about leaving people out. It's about letting the day belong completely to you.

02

The smaller the guest list, the bigger the feeling.

Without a hundred people watching, you stop performing and start experiencing. The nerves become something else — something quieter, more electric. I've watched it happen and it's extraordinary every time.

03

Edinburgh was made for this.

Ancient closes, volcanic hilltops, rain on cobblestones, soft northern light. Edinburgh holds secrets well. It's a city that understands that some things are meant to be felt, not witnessed.

04

You still deserve beautiful photographs.

You're still getting married. That's still enormous. The images from your elopement should be as full of emotion and intention as the day itself — which is exactly why I'm here.

Gentle but
fearless.

I'm Romina — an Edinburgh-based documentary photographer who specialises in the real thing. Not the posed version. Not the performance. The actual, messy, tender, laugh-cry version of your love.

For elopements I keep my footprint small: just me, my cameras, and a genuine desire to capture everything that matters. I move quietly, I stay close, and I know when to disappear into the background and when to get closer.

You won't be directed. You won't be posed into something that doesn't feel like you. I'll fix your hair if the wind gets involved, suggest a walk if you need a moment, and hand you a tissue if the words hit harder than expected. The rest takes care of itself.

Edinburgh is full of
perfect secrets.

Under Scots law you can legally marry almost anywhere — which means the whole city (and the Lothians coast, and beyond) is yours to choose from. Here are some of my favourite Edinburgh elopement locations:

Panoramic Views

Calton Hill

Edinburgh's greatest open-air stage — sweeping views of the city, the Firth of Forth, and Arthur's Seat. Golden hour here is nothing short of absurd.

Wild & Dramatic

Arthur's Seat

Volcanic, ancient, and entirely otherworldly. The walk up is worth it — the light at the summit doesn't exist anywhere else in the city.

Fairy Tale

Dean Village

A hidden village in the heart of Edinburgh — stone bridges, the Water of Leith, and a quiet that feels borrowed from another century.

Gothic & Atmospheric

Greyfriars Kirkyard

One of Edinburgh's most atmospheric spots — ancient headstones, ivy, mist, and a beauty that photographs with incredible depth.

Old Town Magic

The Closes & Wynds

Edinburgh's hidden medieval passageways — Victoria Street's curve, Cockburn Street's colour, the closes of the Royal Mile. Everywhere you turn, a frame.

Coastal · East Lothian

Seacliff & Tantallon

A short drive from Edinburgh — dramatic clifftop castles, deserted beaches, and the kind of wild coastal light that makes everything look like a film still.

Small red heart picks in a glass on a stone ledge — a romantic wedding detail captured by Romina Key Photography

Some moments deserve
analogue permanence.

Elopements and film photography were made for each other. The deliberateness of shooting on 35mm — knowing every frame counts — matches the intention you've brought to your day. And the results: that warmth, that grain, those colours that feel like a memory the moment you see them.

Edinburgh's stone, its northern light, its moody skies — all of it photographs beautifully on film. I offer 35mm and 120 medium-format as an add-on to any elopement package.

Everything you
want to know.

Can you legally elope in Edinburgh? +

Yes — Scotland has some of the most flexible marriage laws in the UK. You can legally marry almost anywhere in Edinburgh with an approved celebrant or registrar, including outdoor locations like Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat, and Dean Village. Your celebrant will guide you through the straightforward paperwork.

What is the best location to elope in Edinburgh? +

Edinburgh is full of incredible elopement spots. Calton Hill offers sweeping city views, Arthur's Seat brings wild volcanic drama, Dean Village feels like a fairy tale, and Greyfriars Kirkyard has an atmospheric gothic beauty. The Old Town's closes and wynds are magical too. The best location depends on your vibe — and I'm happy to help you choose during our planning call.

How many people can attend an Edinburgh elopement? +

There's no legal minimum or maximum. A true elopement is often just the two of you plus your celebrant and photographer — but micro weddings with a handful of close people are just as beautiful. You set the rules entirely.

Do you offer elopement packages? +

Yes — I offer bespoke elopement coverage tailored to your day. This can range from a focused two-hour ceremony session to a full-day intimate celebration across multiple Edinburgh locations. Film photography is available as an add-on for all elopements. Get in touch and we'll shape something that fits perfectly.

What if it rains on our Edinburgh elopement day? +

We embrace it. Honestly — rain on cobblestones, moody grey skies, a shared umbrella — Edinburgh in the rain is cinematic in a way clear blue skies never quite are. I've shot beautiful elopements in every kind of Scottish weather. Come prepared, and trust the light.

Do you travel outside Edinburgh for elopements? +

Absolutely. I cover elopements across the Lothians — from the East Lothian coast (Tantallon Castle, Seacliff Beach) to Linlithgow and Midlothian. Glasgow elopements are also very welcome. For anything further, get in touch and we'll work something out together.
